Holocaust Memorial
The service took place at Howden Park Centre and was held to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
On Friday 26th of January, myself and several other third and second year pupils were given the unforgettable experience of attending the Holocaust Memorial ceremony. The service took place at Howden Park Centre and was held to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
Throughout the service, many people stood before us with an emotive piece prepared regarding Holocausts that have occurred in the past. Whilst each varied greatly from the last, they all shared something important in common, they all emphasised the importance of never forgetting.
At the end of the service, everyone placed pebbles under a small tree planted in memory of those who lost their lives in the monstrosities that are Holocausts. The pebbles were used instead of flowers as it ensures that the truth of the Holocaust cannot wither and die like a bouquet of flowers would but rather remain a poignant reminder of the depths of humankind's cruelty, just as the pebbles we placed will never fade away. I found this very touching and as I was placing my pebble beside the others I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all that I have in life. After attending the Holocaust Memorial ceremony, I now understand the importance of never forgetting and know for certain that I never will forget.
I hope that future generations continue to commemorate those who have lost their lives in Holocausts and am sure that everyone else who attended the ceremony will agree.
