F1 in Schools Team

Velocity Racing achieved 28th place overall

26 September
F1 in schools - Singapore

The school's all girl F1 in Schools team, Velocity Racing, spent the 7th of September to 17th of September in Singapore competing at the F1 in Schools World Finals.

They competed against 50 other teams from 23 countries around the world and managed to achieve 28th place overall, which was a great achievement.

At the end of day five, there was an awards ceremony, where they met Chase Carey, the executive chairman of Formula 1, as well as a number of engineers from Formula 1 teams. Although the girls didn't win any awards they were nominated for the Women in Motor sport award which is a huge achievement.

After the competition finished, alongside the other British teams, the girls got invited to Eden Hall, the British High Commissioner's Residence, to meet Scott Wightman, the British High Commissioner of Singapore and his Depute Justinian Habner.

The girls also got a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the Marina Bay Circuit where they walked along the pit lane and were able to watch the teams engineers in action preparing for the upcoming Grand Prix. The girls got the chance to enter the Red Bull pit garage for a photo opportunity. The weekend before they came home they got the chance to attend the Singapore Grand Prix.

On returning home from the competition they were contacted by BBC, who asked if they could get a couple of the girls on their Timeline show, to talk about the competition and their experience. If you missed it you can watch it on catch up!
