Learning for Sustainability

West Lothian Learning for Sustainability

17 March
ICHS

This year, Glasgow hosts the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. Over 200 world leaders & people of influence will attend to discuss priorities & actions relating to the Paris Agreement. LFS is an entitlement that all young people have within Scotland & is part of the GTC Standards. We want young people across West Lothian to have a sound understanding of the importance of leading sustainable lives now & in the future.

To help promote, support & continue a legacy for sustainable living the Education Development Team are planning a number of events & initiatives. Some of these include:

  • Seeking young peoples views to help influence & develop policy within the authority via an online survey Climate Change Survey for Young People (opens new window)
  • A young people's summit, where young people from across West Lothian will take part in virtual workshops & debates around some issues to do with Climate Change
  • Smarter Choices funding & bids. Having secured money from Smarter Choices we are asking individual schools or clusters of schools to put forward a bid for money that can be used to fund projects that promote active travel. There is support & guidance that comes with this & we hope that schools will take advantage of this & the opportunities it can help provide for our young people & families

The Team are also looking at other events & ways to support schools in their LFS journey. The attached leaflet (West Lothian Learning for Sustainability (PDF, 181 KB)(opens new window)) contains more detail along with links to the survey.
